Come rain or come shine, this is it!

Tomorrow is Saturday 31st, The Pink Ribbon Spin For Life Singapore 2009 inaugural event. We have prepared the best we can, now we can do what we do best: enthuse others about the Spinning program, and let them know how exercise can help prevent the onset of Breast Cancer.

CHECK IT OUT! The new e-Spinner is here...

This is what you need at home when you're fave Spin instructor is away riding on real life roads and climbing real life hills, and you, poor you, are stuck at home and slogging it out at work.
The e-Spinner comes with a lot of smooth talking, and a lot of good looks, pretty much like your regular Spin instructor (Ha!), except, it's made of steel, literally. It has a million ride variations!! A million?..OK, maybe so.
That's enough to make even your fave Spinning instructor sprint back from his/her real life riding experience to combat the virtual version!
So, here we are, my fellow Spinning specialists, the digital age is nipping at our heels, we better crank up the resistance and show our inimitable advantage, our human touch!...Beat that, espinner!
To check out this amazing new bike, contact Chris/Cecilia at Active Lifestyle Pte Ltd Singapore on 67382913.

MEET AND GREET CONT'D...

You're a good sport, Jeslynda Tay.
Meet Jeslynda, last minute Spinning angel sent from main man Yew Kwong to take over a last minute change. We like.
She shares modestly: "Used to be a lazy pig haha... but exercise has become very much a part of my life since my 20's... Am a morning person so I usually workout in the mornings... I try to vary my workouts with Combat/Spinning classes at California Fitness and also running/swimming outdoors... started road biking with the Joyriders recently and is getting soooo addicted to this new found sport... Volunteering work is still something pretty new to me at this moment but will definitely try to find time to do more of such stuff... :)
Well, Jeslynda, looks like your volunteering effort has gone off to a brilliant start. Thank you! See you on Saturday...

TALK IS NOT CHEAP

Does Action speak louder than words?
And we certainly are about to act. With our energy, on a bike, on a stage, to raise awareness for Breast Cancer.
Who will be there? Are we talking about it enough? How will they know they that they ought to participate? Can we reach them by letting them know what to do?
Where to sign up? www.bcf.org.sg
Where to read about it? this blogspot
Who is teaching? Singapore's leading Indoor cycling
instructors...Men and Women of all ages, all backgrounds who share the same passion.

So,with 2 weeks to go, let's go out and talk. Because talk and action work best together. And that's exactly what we're going to do on October 31st.

YOGA INSPIRED STRETCH WITH ANGIE

Meet, Angie, self-confessed "exercise freak"! But Angie is much more than that...She has donated some of her time to help run our Stretching station for Spin For Life, at 11 a.m..Read on...
My name is Angie Choo. My story begins with being a lazy girl, full of excuses for avoiding exercise about 2 years back.My turning point came about when I was graduating. I vividly remember that just before my convocation at the Shangri-La Hotel on September 2006, I visited many places to look for just an ordinary white long sleeve blouse. To my astonishment, most of the shops I went to did not carry my size. Finally, I could barely fit into a double XL white long sleeves blouse for this special day. All the photos taken from this event turned to look terrible...
I was happy on one hand and sad on the other. This resulted in my telling myself deep inside that something had to change and as such, I resorted to starting a healthy diet and a regular exercise program.
I joined Planet Fitness then, True Fitness now.. With my determination, perseverance despite pain, tiredness, etc. I am now a regular "gym goer"! I visit the gym most days of the week and participate in various programs, Spinning, combat, pump, cardio shape, pilates, yoga, running and even weight training!
I even took up running last year, inspired by our amazing gym instructor who gave up her personal time to encourage us to run. I have ran 4 runs (Safra Bay Run, GE Women Run, Shape Women Run and the Standard Chartered Run) last year and will be doing the GE run on 1 Nov as well as the Standard Chartered run in Dec 2009. I have also managed to get a handful more people to run this year.

With my newly gained enthusiasm for sports, I have also completed a Yoga Course for teachers and have successfully graduated with a grade of A+ for my Diploma in Yoga with Dr. Venky Shivshakti Yoga Institution (International) India which is also affliated to the International Yoga Federation in April 2009. I have always believed that Sports and a healthy lifestyle is for life. So, why wait, my fellow friends? - Spin for life and Spin for charity!
Thank you for your time Angie! So when you need to stretch after your Spin session, make your way to the Spin for Life stretch Area!

AN OLDIE BUT A GOODIE

Something to start your weekend with...Thank you to all volunteers...

ORDINARY PEOPLE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Linda writes: " Hi, this is Linda Mah, I am just an ordinary Singaporean, getting old and going into my silver years! I have nothing much to talk about myself except that I have two stories to share:
I started going to the gym once a week in 2003 and had since increased to 3 times a week. I realised that as we age, excercise should be a part of life to stay healthy and strong.Last year, we have a very nice gym instructor who inspires us to run despite her busy schedule and since then a small group was formed. In fact, she created this passion for running in everyone of us, so we started signing up for all the runs possible and everyone in the group now has the confidence to run 5 km anytime!I will be running for the coming GE run this year too.
I would like to take this opportunity to share two stories with all of you.
12 years ago, someone I knew was diagnosed with breast cancer. On one occasion, she came to Singapore as her husband was on a business trip here. She travelled alone and I was asked to go to the airport to take her to the Oriental Hotel. I was shocked when she came out in a wheelchair, I almost couldn't recognise her.
I took her out to eat and shop around Marina Square and before going back to the Hotel which is just next to Marina Sq, she asked if we could take a taxi from there back to the Oriental Hotel, as she found it too diffcult to climb the stairs...
I wonder whether anyone reading this knows the Oriental hotel well, there are about 6or 7 steps from Marina Sq mall to the hotel and no lift access...
To us, it would sound ridiculous to take a taxi as the hotel is just round the corner. I thought so too at that time, and in fact, worried that no taxi would take us. In the end, I made her climb the stairs slowly.
After leaving Singapore, she was admitted to the hospital immediately and died a few days later in Hong Kong. After this incident, I regretted not taking the taxi and told myself in future that anyone who is ill/needs my help and requests anything that may sound ridiculous/impossible to me, I will not say NO and will try to ease their pain...
I have another close friend from Taipei (Taiwan) who was diagnosed with cancer in May this year. She has been in hospital ever since.I just called to check on her condition before writing this and heard that she is in a critical condition...
To me, she has always been very healthy over the years. I felt sad for her as I don't think she will be given a chance to recover and do things she would like to do as simple as having a meal with her family.I will try to visit her again, pray for her and hope that a miracle happens!!
So, life is short and anything can happen overnight! We should stay strong and healthy to enjoy ourselves while we can and treasure our family, friends and people around us... and help those in need wnenever possible and never take things for granted!
To BCF: Please feel free to let me know of any areas where you need volunteers..."

Linda, this is not an ordinary story. We all need reminders to make a bigger effort to help others from time to time.Thank you.
