WHY ARE WE VOLUNTEERING?

Reasons are many.
But above all, we want to let women of all ages know and understand that regular exercise helps to prevent the onset of Breast Cancer. Aside from alerting them to the importance of regular mmamograms, monthly self-checks, and where they can get help, we want them to know that working out works in their favour in more ways than one Raising funds to help get the message out is crucial. We know what Spinning is, do they?

Noooo, That's NOT Spinning..........!
We know that Spinning works. Let's show them how!

WHAT MAKES A GREAT SPINNING INSTRUCTOR?

Not easy to define. Some participants surveyed will say music, others prefer instructors who literally whip them into shape. Overall, most participants enjoy being led and supported throughout the class, when they don't have the time to check the time, when they find themselves smiling for no reason, when they feel the energy and use it to propel themselves along. They want to be empowered, positive, capable and basically...happy. The workout is a given. The experience is a gift.

In an event that gathers people for a cause such as early cancer detection, the atmosphere is crucial. We want to communicate, empathise, sympathise, excite, inspire, entertain, transport and share. We want them to feel free, to feel
united in their cause. We want to attach emotion and importance to their desire to participate for themselves, for the cause, their friends, their family, the ones they may have lost.

Just in case ,this isn't quite clear.. check this out...

BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION INAUGURAL MASS OUTDOOR SPIN EVENT IN SINGAPORE

PINK RIBBON SPIN FOR LIFE
31ST OCTOBER 2009
9 A.M - 9 P.M
PLAZA SINGAPURA
Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2009

SPINNERS REVEAL YOURSELVES!

APPEAL FOR INSTRUCTOR PARTICIPATION

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer affecting women in Singapore . Each day, three women are diagnosed with the disease and 303 die from it annually, and these figures are expected to increase. The good news is, breast cancer need not be fatal.
The Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) is a non-profit charity organisation that focuses on increasing awareness of breast cancer, promoting early detection through breast self examination and mammography screening, and providing support for victims of the disease.
One of BCF's main campaigns is Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) which is internationally recognised in October yearly.

In conjunction with BCAM, BCF will organise several events not only to raise awareness but also to raise funds that will allow us to carry on with our important work. One of the main awareness activities will be the inaugural “Pink Ribbon Spin for life” event.

WHY WE NEED YOU?

We are looking for enthusiastic Volunteer Instructors willing to dedicate some of their time on Saturday 31st October to perform various roles.

Lead Riders
If you can teach Indoor cycling, and feel confident leading a class, you can volunteer as a Lead Rider. You will be leading, and teaching the 1 hour time slots, how much time you donate is up to you. We need 1 Lead rider per hour.

Team Riders
If you prefer to flank, that is, to support your fellow instructors but still be up there on stage having a ball and motivating the crowds while you ride along next to the instructor. You can volunteer as a Team Rider. We need 2 Team riders per hour.

Support
If you prefer to be part of the crowd and don't like to be centre stage, if you are new at teaching Indoor cycling or would like to participate, support your friends and be part of it, you can donate your time for setup supervision. Be on the floor to help riders set up properly, quickly and efficiently and provide words of encouragement.

As a volunteer, your time and effort is much appreciated. You may have been touched by Breast Cancer personally, through your family, friends and colleagues. If you would like to donate more than 1 hour, you can assume any number of these roles at anytime. For example you can be a Lead Rider for 1 hour, then a team rider and donate 2 hours in total...or you can pair up with a fellow instructor and choose to lead, while they flank or vice versa...

There are 12 x1hr time slots, from 9 a.m to 9 p.m and plenty of opportunity to volunteer.

DONATE YOUR TIME

As a supporter, you will, most importantly, be seen to be championing an issue close to women's hearts. Your participation would mean joining BCF in our cause to eradicate a life threatening disease. We look forward to your kind and generous support in the fight against breast cancer.

A LIST OF VOLUNTEERS IS CURRENTLY BEING COMPILED FOR OUR RECORDS. SHOULD YOU WISH TO COMMIT TO THIS EVENT IN ANYWAY, PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL OR TEXT MESSAGE STATING YOUR NAME, YOUR CONTACT DETAILS, YOUR PREFERRED ROLE, THE TIME AND NUMBER OF HOURS YOU WILL BE AVALABLE ON THE DAY AND THE BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION SINGAPORE WILL BE IN TOUCH WITH YOU.

please contact SOPHIE LAMALETIE sophielam@yahoo.com

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
